Books I Purchased During The Month of September:During the month of September, I purchased and completed a book series I have wanted to own for a very long time. This is a personal goal of mine, and a book series that I have read, and a book to movie adaptation that I have seen. It would definitely say that this is one of the most well known book series out there, especially one of the ones that have been adapted into a very well known movie franchise. If you haven’t guessed it, I’m talking about the Harry Potter series!!! Well six of the Harry Potter books, as I paid almost £30 for the final Hardback copy of the final book, Deathly Hallows, and I love my copy, so I don’t care if it doesn’t match my new set, I wasn’t rebuying that book and replacing it with a cheap paperback edition, for the sake of having a whole matching set, even if I was tempted. I will admit that even though I did, and still do own another addition of Prisoner of Azkaban, I picked that copy up from a book fair for about 50p a year ago, so I hold no sentimental attachment to that book whatsoever, so I don’t mind replacing it for a matching set. So, in case you don’t know what this series, or can’t remember what each of these books are about, I am going to give a description for each individual book, but as this is a continued series, there may be spoilers, sorry!
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Book 1) – J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is book one in the Harry Potter series. I remember reading this book in my English class in year 7 in comprehensive school, but I will admit that I did watch the movie first, before I realised how massive this book and movie franchise were both going to become. I haven’t read this book since then and I’m 24 now, almost half my life ago if you can imagine, and I probably know more about the film than I do about the book. So, let’s see what book one is about;
“‘Turning the envelope over, his hand trembling, Harry saw a purple wax seal bearing a coat of arms; a lion, an eagle, a bader and a snake surrounding a large letter ‘H’.
HARRY POTTER has never heard of Hogwarts when the LETTERS start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in GREEN INK on yellowish parchment with a PURPHISH SEAL, they are swiftly confiscated by his GRISLY aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry’s eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed GIANT of a man called RUBEUS HAGRID bursts in with some ASTONISHING news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY.
An incredible adventure is about to begin!”
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Book 2) – J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is Book two in the Harry Potter series. Harry survived his first year at Hogwarts, discovered some unknown truths about his past and his family, made some friends and some enemies, all at the young age of eleven. Now we have the second book and we get to see his adventure continued on. So what is to be expected this year? Let’s see;
“‘There is a plot, Harry Potter. A plot to make most terrible things happen at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry this year.’
HARRY POTTER’S summer has included the WORSE birthday ever, DOOMY warnings from a HOUSE-ELF called Dobby, and RESCUE from the Dursleys by his friend Ron Weasley in a magical FLYING car! Back at HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY for his second year, Harry hears strange WHISPERS echo through empty corridors – and then the ATTACKS start. Students are found as though turned to stone… Dobby’s SINISTER predictions seem to be coming TRUE.”
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Book 3) – J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is Book 3 in the Harry Potter series. I have only read this book for the first time this year and OMG!! This book has turned out to be my favourite book in this series, sorry Deathly Hallows, but I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would. I have obviously watched the film, and it was always one of my least favourites, but all of the extras you get with this book!!! I am in love with this book. So much so, I now own two copies lol. It was this book that made me want to reread this series. I am so excited. So let’s see what Year 3 as in store for Harry and his friends;
“‘Welcome to the Knight Bus, emergency transport for the stranded witch or wizard. Just stick out your wand hand, step on board and we can take you anywhere you want to go’
When the KNIGHT BUS crashes through the darkness and SCREECHES to a halt in front of him, it’s the start of another far from ordinary year at HOGWARTS for Harry Potter. Sirius Black, ESCAPED mass-murderer and follower of LORD VOLDEMORT, is on the RUN – and they say he is coming after Harry. In his first ever Divination class, Professor Trelawney sees an OMEN of death in Harry’s tea leaves. . . But perhaps most TERRIFYING of all are the DEMONTORS patrolling the school grounds, with their soul-sucking KISS.”
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book 4) – J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire is Book 4 in the Harry Potter book series. The first version of this book I bought cost 20p from a charity shop and was practically brand new, before this series kicked out. I remember reading it and being so excited then for the film and then being so disappointed because so much was missed out. It was the biggest book I had ever read at that time.
“‘There will be three tasks, spaced throughout the school year, and they will test the champions in many different ways. . . their magical prowess – their daring – their powers of deduction – and, of course, their ability to cope with danger.’
The TRIWIZARD TOURNAMENT is to be held at Hogwarts. Only wizards who are over seventeen are allowed to enter – but that doesn’t stop Harry DREAMING that he will WIN the competition. Then at Hallowe’en, when the Goblet of Fire makes its selection, Harry is AMAZED to find his name is one of those that the MAGICAL cup picks out. He will face death-defying tasks, DRAGONS and Dark wizards, but with the help of his best friends, Ron and Hermione, he might just make it through – ALIVE!”
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5) – J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is Book 5 in the Harry Potter series. I stupidly read this book after I read Half Blood Prince, so the ending of this book was ruined for me, but it was such a sad book all the same. I think that’s may be why I am so set on putting the order of the books down on this post. That was my biggest spoiler I had throughout the whole Harry Potter series! I didn’t know the actual names of books at the time and I didn’t have internet to check, so I was left borrowing books from the library or from friends. So I ended up borrowing them in the wrong order and I was left confused and devastated when I found out.
“‘You are sharing the Dark Lord’s thoughts and emotions. The Headmaster thinks it inadvisable for this to continue. He wishes me to teach you how to close your mind to the Dark Lord.’
DARK TIMES have come to Hogwarts. After the Dementors’ ATTACKS on his cousin Dudley, Harry Potter knows that Voldemort will stop at NOTHING to find him. There are many who deny the Dark Lord’s return, but Harry is not alone: a SECRET ORDER gathers at Grimmauld Place to fight against the Dark forces. Harry must allow Professor Snape to teach him how to PROTECT himself from Voldemort’s savage assaults on his mind. But they are growing STRONGER by the day and Harry is running out of time. . .”
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6) – J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the sixth book in the Harry Potter series. As I said previously, I read this book out of order, reading it before I read The Order of the Phoenix. Maybe it was because of this of maybe for other reasons, but this is my least favourite Harry Potter book. It is definitely an essential book, it the case of storyline and characters and how it all progresses, but when I think of all of the books, this is sadly my least favourite book. This is another reason why I want to reread the Harry Potter series again, and this time I want to do it with me reading them ALL in the correct order. That way I am getting it all as it is meant to be, no confusion and no spoilers to myself, even if I have read them before. You get to put yourself back into this world and stay there and by doing it correctly and in the right order, I get to experience it all the way it was meant to be experienced! This way, I may have difference attitudes and opinions on any of the books and I really hope I do like this book more than I currently do.
“‘There it was, hanging in the sky above the school: the blazing green skull with a serpent tongue, the mark Death Eaters left behind whenever they had entered a building. . . whenever they had murdered. . .’
When DUMBLEDORE arrives at Privet Drive one summer night to collect Harry Potter, his wand hand is BLACKENED and shrivelled, but he does not reveal why. Secrets and SUSPICION are spreading through the wizarding world, and Hogwarts itself is not safe. Harry is convinced that Malfoy bears the DARK MARK: there is a Death Eater amongst them. Harry will need POWERFUL magic and true friends as he explores VOLDEMORT’S darkest secrets, and Dumbledore prepares hi m to face his DESTINY.”
I already own the seventh book in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and I have borrowed/been given Harry Potter and The Cursed Child from my boyfriend, as he didn’t enjoy it at all and he knows that I bought these books and am going to want to read it. I haven’t included it in this Book Haul because even though he sort of gave it to me, it is still technically his. All that’s left for me to do now is to have a Harry Potter ReadAThon, and I can’t wait!!
